The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards

On April 19th, 2010 Nancy will be honoring Alec Grab with the Prudential Spirit of Community Award. Alec is a 7th grader at Browns River Middle School and is one of two Vermont students picked for this award. He worked hard to raise $3,400 for the Vermont Special Olympics.

15TH ANNUAL NATIONAL AWARDS PROGRAM

Killington and Underhill students earn $1,000 awards,
engraved medallions and a trip to nation’s capital

MONTPELIER, Vt. – Colton Blackman, 18, of Killington and Alec Grab, 12, of Underhill today were named Vermont’s top two youth volunteers for 2010 by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, a nationwide program honoring young people for outstanding acts of volunteerism. The awards program, now in it’s 15th year, is conducted by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). 

Colton was nominated by Woodstock Union High School in Woodstock, and Alec was nominated by Browns River Middle School in Jericho. As State Honorees, each will receive $1,000, an engraved silver medallion, and an all-expense-paid trip in early May to Washington, D.C., where they will join the top tow honorees from each of the other states and the District of Columbia for several days of national recognition events. Ten of them will be named America’s top youth volunteers for 2010 at that time. (click for full press release in pdf format)

Nancy Jenkins Real Estate Scholarship

Nancy Jenkins Real Estate Scholarship

Nancy Jenkins will be awarding two $1000 scholarships to area high school seniors who have a goal of attending college for the 2010-2011 school year. “My goal in providing these scholarship monies to students, who have financial needs, is to help them visualize and achieve their life goals.” Those who may not receive scholarships based on skills or academics, but who show a strong desire to succeed are highly encouraged to apply.

Interested seniors need to write an essay explaining why they want to attend college and why they need financial aid.

The deadline for entries is May 1st 2010
