Just south of the high-ticket area of Shelburne, Charlotte, and Ferrisburgh, Addison is a beautiful Vermont township situated on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain. Like its Chittenden-County counterparts, Addison offers the very best in Vermont living: summer recreation on the lake, rolling meadowlands, quiet waterways and wildlife preserves, mountain views, and world-famous historical sites. Its country lanes, antique markets, and craft centers can be explored year-round. The town's southern shoreline is home to the historic site called Chimney Point, a strategic settlement on Lake Champlain for millennia. Native tribes camped here as they hunted and fished the lake, as did, more recently, French traders. At the close of the French and Indian War, French settlers torched the site before fleeing, leaving behind a collection of charred chimneys—hence the Point's name.
