Lake Champlain is a boater's scenic paradise, with the Green Mountains to the east and the Adirondacks to the west. At over 500 square miles, it's a huge body of fresh water—stretching over half way down the state of Vermont (125 miles long) and spanning two states, New York and Vermont (14 miles at its widest point). Some call it the 6th Great Lake! Motorboats and sailors alike share this recreational waterway—with lots of bays, islands, craggy shorelines, and beaches to explore. Make way for avid Vermont kayakers and canoeists. Lake Champlain is rich in history: the Iroquois and the Abenaki peoples were among the first to use watercraft on Lake Champlain. The lake played major roles in both the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 — with artifacts, cannonballs, and shipwrecks deep under water.
