Nearly fourteen miles long and three miles wide, Grand Isle is the largest island in beautiful Lake Champlain, providing residents with broad views of Lake Champlain, the Adirondacks, and the Green Mountains. It is the hub for the Lake Champlain Transportation Company's year-round ferry to Plattsburgh, NY. Commute time from Grand Isle to Burlington is only 30 minutes and an hour to Montreal, Canada. One of the oldest log cabins in the nation, the Hyde Log Cabin was built here in 1783 and now stands as an important historical site maintained by the Grand Isle Historical Society. Directly to the south on the same island is beautiful South Hero, Vermont.
