The Little Town in the Heart of Chittenden County. Despite its status as the smallest geographical township in Vermont, with a total area of just 3.6 sq. miles, St. George is an active community with many excellent public services and local recreational possibilities. St. George works in cooperation with the neighboring towns of Hinesburg, Shelburne, and Williston to provide residents with a high quality-of-life (as indicated by the ranking of its shared school system and other cultural markers). The popular swimming and boating spot of Lake Iroquois Recreational District is an excellent example of this collaborative effort. The Red Schoolhouse (1852), which is now used as a polling place and public hearing site, along with a cluster of houses and a small industrial park identify St. George village near where Route 2A meets Route 116. The Rocky Ridge Golf Course is also located in St. George. Town meetings are held in the golf course club house.
