Route 116 winds through the center of Starksboro Village, a lively rural township nestled in the foothills of the Green Mountains. There is a strong sense of community here, with residents and town organizers holding annual sugar-on-snow parties, ham dinners, and plant and book sales. Despite the increased development in townships to the north, the plan is to keep Starksboro rural, agricultural, and community based—in other words, quintessentially Vermont. Starksboro's colorfully named Hogback Mountain slopes down the western portion of the town into Lewis Creek valley.
