The picturesque town of Swanton is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain where the Missisquoi River flows from the foothills of the Green Mountains—making Swanton a nature lover's paradise and the perfect spot for year-round outdoor recreation. Swanton is home to the 6,800-acre Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge, which includes most of the Missisquoi River delta where it flows into Missisquoi Bay, as well as the 870-acre Maquam Wildlife Management Area. Swanton is also the tribal headquarters of the Abenaki people. To learn more about some of the native cultures of Vermont, make a trip to the Native-owned Abenaki Tribal Museum in Swanton, which is dedicated to preserving the culture and history of the Abenaki nation in Vermont and neighboring areas. Swanton is also ideally located on Interstate 89 midway between St. Albans City and Canada.
